To further enhance your visit to Antarctica, we can arrange a unique A&K ‘& Moment’ visiting the Scott Polar Research Institute in Cambridge, England.Arrive at the Scott Polar Research Institute mid-afternoon (15:30) for an introductory presentation by Professor Dowdeswell, a specialist in glaciers, ice sheets and polar environmental change. This will be followed by a guided tour of the Polar Museum, show-casing Scott, Shackleton and other British polar explorers. Exhibits include items from Scott’s camp, Captain Oates’ sleeping bag, Edward Wilson’s watercolour paintings and a collection of sledges used throughout history. Afterwards enjoy a tour of the SPRI Library (the world’s most comprehensive polar library) and a private viewing of archival documents, artefacts and works of art not usually on display to the public. These may include Shackleton’s diaries, annotated maps and moving letters written by Scott on his last expedition. This fascinating and rewarding visit will be followed by a candle-lit dinner in an historic Cambridge College hosted by Professor Dowdeswell.Dates available include 14th October, 4th, 11th and 25th November 2008.
