Diverse, surprising, majestic and untouched, the Atacama Desert runs for over 600 miles between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains in northern Chile and is the world’s most arid wilderness. A landscape of breathtaking thermal springs, spectacular lunar landscapes, Andean volcanoes and amazing salt flats is waiting to be explored by foot, horse, bike or 4x4 vehicles. This vast expanse of land also displays occasional signs of life from llamas and alpaca to vicunas and flamingos, all unperturbed by the presence of man. Furthermore in all this immensity tiny villages maintain the traditions of their Atacameños and Inca ancestors and the influence of Spanish colonisation is still evident in the architecture of their churches.
Awasi’s eight cottages made from adobe, stone and wood provide an authentic yet luxurious experience. Rooms offer patios and reading areas, whilst the hotel has a pool and local-style restaurant. Each room also is designated its own guide and 4x4 vehicle, ensuring excursions are designed around personal requirements and aspirations.
