Day 1 – London/Beijing

Board your overnight British Airways flight from Heathrow to Beijing.

Day 2 – Beijing

Arrive in Beijing and check-in to the Peninsula Beijing hotel, home for the next three nights. Visit the Temple of Heaven and take a Hutong tour by pedicab then visit Hongqiao Market or Silk Alley.

Days 3 to 4– Beijing

Beijing sightseeing includes Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, a boat ride on Kunming Lake and lunch at a local restaurant. At the Great Wall of China, climb the ramparts at Mutianyu or take a cable car ride, discover the Spirit Way and explore the Ming Tombs.

Day 5 – Beijing/Xian

Fly from Beijing to Xian and check-in to the Shangri-la hotel for the next two nights. In the afternoon visit the Great Mosque, Old Quarter and Small Wild Goose Pagoda.

Day 6 – Xian

Today visit the Terracotta Warriors, an army of more than 7,000 terracotta figures with their chariots and horses. In the afternoon explore Shaanxi Provincial Museum with viewings of Tang Murals and city walls.

Day 7 - Xian/Guilin

Transfer to the airport with a stop at Yangling Museum en route. Arrive in Guilin and visit Fubo Hill, Tunnel Cave and the markets. Stay at the Sheraton Hotel for two nights.

Day 8 - Guilin

Today enjoy a full day Li river cruise with lunch on board, explore historic Yangshou and experience a sound and light show.

Day 9 - Guilin/Chongqing

Fly from Guilin to Chongqing. This afternoon visit Pipa Hill, Red Rock Village and Chongqing Museum. Transfer to the pier to embark on the Yangzi Explorer.

Days 10 to 11 – Yangzi Cruise

Three nights on the river are spent in a Deluxe cabin. The real attraction is the journey itself, passing through the inspiring beauty of Qutang Gorge, the sheer looming Wu Gorge and the legendary rockscape of the Xiling Gorge, with plenty of opportunities to explore onshore.

Day 12 – Yangzi River/Shanghai

Disembark the Yangzi Explorer at Yichang by 11.30am. Fly to Shanghai and transfer to the Four Seasons hotel for a three night stay.

Day 13 – Shanghai

A full day's sightseeing includes Yu Gardens and the Old Town, Shanghai Museum, the Bund and Nanjing Road. Lunch is at a local restaurant, while the evening is enlivened by an acrobatic show.

Day 14 – Shanghai

This morning travel to the ancient river town of Zhujiajiao with lunch at a local restaurant and walk along the paved streets enjoying the elegant architecture.

Day 15 – Shanghai/London

Enjoy a final morning of sightseeing, including the French Concession and the Jade Buddha Temple. Take the Hong Kong extension or alternatively, take the early morning flight back to London via Hong Kong, arriving later the same day.Hong Kong Extension (2 nts)Fly from Shanghai to Hong Kong and check-in to the Peninsula Hong Kong. A half day’s sightseeing explores Sheung Wan market, Man Mo Temple, Victoria Peak, Aberdeen fishing village followed by a dim sum lunch. Prices from £699 per person
