Walking Wild in Laikipiak Maasai-land is a walking safari experience through one of Kenya’s best wildlife-viewing habitats - the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Combined with the two Maasai Community Conservation areas of Il Ngwesi and Lekurruki, these three areas provide some of the most stunning landscapes in Africa. This area is home to a wide variety of game including the ‘Big Five’ and over 420 species of bird. This safari is supported by camels that can be ridden if the terrain allows.

Day 1 - London/Nairobi

Fly from London-Heathrow with British Airways to Nairobi where on arrival you will be transferred to the Norfolk Hotel for one night.

Day 2 - Lewa

Depart Wilson Airport for Lewa, where your walking adventure begins. On arrival you will walk through Lewa riverine woodland and savannah. Overnight tonight will be a camp in central Lewa. Fly camps on this safari consist of dome shaped netted tents. Bedding is a bed roll on the floor with sheets and blankets. Showers are of the bucket type.

Day 3 - Lewa

Professional guides lead the walking-safari through the variety of eco-systems so that you can experience the diversity of flora and fauna of the area. En-route, you will be taught tracking techniques and bush skills. Continue through Lewa savannah and bushveld to camp on the north western edge of Lewa. Walking is generally in the cool hours of the day between 7.30am and 12.00 noon and usually for four or five hours a day. Following a rest during the main heat of the day, there is another walk in the evening exploring the areas around the camp.

Day 4 - Il Ngwesi

Walk to Il Ngwesi lowland bush and river eco-systems. Here you can end your safari or you may wish to continue to the overnight camp which is located by the Ngare Ndare River.

Day 5 - Il Ngwesi

Local Laikipiak Maasai warriors will join you for part of the journey. You will explore the surrounding area with them and learn more about the traditional Maasai customs. Camp by the Ngare Ndare River.

Day 6 - Lekurruki

Today you will travel from Il Ngwesi to Lekurruki bushveld. The camp for tonight is located in the hills.

Day 7 - Lekurruki/Nairobi/London

The end of your walking safari. You will fly from Borana Airstrip to Nairobi and depart on your British Airways flight overnight to London-Heathrow, arriving early day 8.
