This private 375-acre coral island, protected by reefs amidst the vivid crystalline waters of the Indian Ocean, is named after Denis de Trobriand who landed there in 1773. With its own farm and vegetable gardens, the resort is almost self-sufficient and offers peace, hospitality and a home-away-from-home experience in a castaway setting. Rustic cottages are hidden amongst casuarina trees and front onto the beach and the only sounds to be heard are from the fairy terns flying overhead and the waves washing the shore.
Accommodation
There are 25 individual island-style cottages set in a grove of casuarinas and coconut trees, bordering the beach. Each has a private bathroom with separate bath and shower, opening onto a private courtyard with alfresco shower. Double beds are romantically draped with mosquito nets and the softest Indian cotton sheets. The cottages have high woven coconut-grass ceilings and are both fan-cooled and air-conditioned. A sitting area is equipped with a mini-fridge and tea/coffee facilities, whilst private verandahs face the sea. The larger Villa Bois d'Argent executive villa has been newly refurbished and has its own private beach. The Villa Prince Noir has a master bedroom and two additional twin beds, making it perfect for families. There are no televisions in the rooms and no mobile phone signal on the island.
