Clipper OdysseyThe 118-passenger ‘Clipper Odyssey’ provides superior on-board comfort while sailing to remote and off-the-beaten-path destinations. A fleet of on-board Zodiac dinghies enables all passengers to explore and land anywhere nature or curiosity dictates. All of A&K’s Odyssey voyages are accompanied by destination experts and lecturers individually selected for each sailing, so that you know the stories behind all that you see. All staterooms have an ocean view, private well-appointed bathroom, sitting area with sofa, individual temperature controls, in-room music system and television. An INMARSAT telecommunications system permits email access. Public areas include a window-lined dining room featuring international cuisine, a lounge, library, gym, outdoor pool, hair salon and a well-stocked gift shop. An infirmary is staffed with an accredited physician on every voyage. On-board the ship all meals, drinks (except premium brand) and gratuities are included. See myriad birdlife in the Tuamotu Atoll, enjoy the warm welcome of the Marquesas Islands and explore the Society Islands, both above and below water. 24 October – London/PapeeteDepart from London Heathrow for Papeete via Los Angeles. 25 October – Papeete, TahitiArrive early morning and transfer to the InterContinental Resort. The rest of the day is free to relax. This evening, join your fellow travellers and A&K expedition team for a welcome dinner and reception.26 October - Papeete/embark Clipper OdysseyEnjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Papeete. This afternoon, board the Clipper Odyssey and settle in for the first evening on board.27 October - Bora Bora, Society IslandsWith its verdant double peaks and encircling lagoon, Bora Bora is unsurpassed in its scenic beauty. The surrounding barrier reef provides superb snorkelling and diving; one of the underwater highpoints of the voyage. 28 October - Mataiva, Tuamotu IslandsMataiva is replete with sun drenched beaches, palm trees and affable islanders. We will be greeted by Mataiva’s residents, who will take us on a tour of their island and treat us to a wonderful traditional feast for lunch. Snorkelling and diving excursions may also be possible.29 October - Rangiroa, Tuamotu IslandsRangiroa is a series of islands around a lagoon, making it the largest atoll in the Tuamotus and the second largest in the world. Its 393 square-mile lagoon is the main attraction. Marine life of every size and description can be found here including sharks, parrot fish, butterfly fish and eels.30 October - At Sea Today we sail through the waters of French Polynesia on our way to the Marquesas Islands. A full programme of lectures will be offered, along with leisure time.31 October - Motu Oa/Ua Pou, Marquesas IslandsUninhabited Motu Oa is a haven for seabirds. Located just off the larger island of Ua Pou, it boasts several species of boobies, noddies and petrels. We will pay an ecologically-controlled visit to the islet before continuing on to Ua Pou. Possible activities here include island tours, birding walks, Zodiac cruises and archaeological visits. 1 November - Hiva Oa, Marquesas IslandsHiva Oa was once home to a substantial population who left behind an interesting record of their way of life. Accompanied by A&K’s archeological expert, tour the ruins of several marae (sacred sites) and other points of interest amid the verdant growth of this tropical island. Hiva Oa is also the final resting place of painter Paul Gauguin. 2 November - Tahuata, MarquesasTahuata has had a varied history. It was in Vaitahu Bay that Mendana anchored in 1595 and named the island group Las Marquesas. Captain Cook also visited in 1774. The crystal clear waters reveal a wide variety of colorful corals, tropical fish and dolphins.3 November - Fatu Hiva, MarquesasSoaring volcanic spires and lush slopes give Fatu Hiva an unmistakable, dramatic appearance. Birders will seek endemic white-capped fruit-doves, Marquesas reed-warblers and Fatu Hiva monarchs. Divers may have the opportunity to explore Fatu Hiva’s underwater volcanic caverns. We will also visit one of the villages. 4 November - Puka Puka, TuamotusFirst sighted during Magellan’s 1521 voyage, Puka Puka was the first South Pacific island to be spotted by Europeans. It is now home to 112 people who use the arable land for copra production. Today we will be guests of the villagers, who will entertain us with traditional songs. Snorkelling and diving excursions may also be possible. 5 November - At Sea Today, our lecture series continues as we sail through the islands and atolls of the Tuamotu Ridge. Spend time watching seabirds and marine life from the deck.6 November - Fakarava, Tuamotu IslandsFakarava is a protected nature reserve and its rich ecosystem is home to rare birds, plants and crustaceans, while the rich diving sites are virtually untouched. Life along the shores is equally unique with charming villages, old coral churches, and warm, welcoming people. 7 November - Papeete, Tahiti/LondonDisembark in Papeete and transfer to the InterContinental Resort for a day-room. Transfer to the airport in the evening for your flight to London Heathrow via Los Angeles, arriving on 9th November.The nature of expeditionary cruising means the captain may change the itinerary based on local conditions.
