Day 1 - ArushaArrive into Arusha and transfer to Arusha Coffee Lodge for the night.Day 2 - Arusha / Mahale
Take a light aircraft flight across the plains and highlands to the shores of Lake Tanganyika , from where a short motor boat trip brings you to Kangwena Beach and Greystoke Mahale Camp, your home for the next three nights. This most isolated of setting is home to the world’s largest known population of chimpanzeesDays 3 to 4 - Mahale
Two full days to explore the forests of the Mahale Mountains. . Your home at Greystoke Mahale is in individual open fronted cottages under thatch - decorated with local fabrics. A trek through the rainforest takes you to Mahale's chimpanzees. Tracking the primates is all part of the experience of observing the nine species of primate, of which the endangered chimpanzee is the most famous. The sixty chimps that live in the mountains close to camp have become habituated to human presence with over twenty years of contact. There is also the opportunity to observe leopard, bushbuck, bushpig, and a multitude of birds and butterflies. The lake also contains over 250 species of tropical fish.Day 5 - Mahale/Arusha
Return by light aircraft to Arusha for either your onward connection home or alternatively you may wish to extend your stay with a few days on the beaches of Zanzibar.
