I just wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you (Ailine Fischer) for the amazing experience in Iceland. This trip was an absolute dream. Everything about it was magical and words truly fall short. The guides, both Jon from A&K and all of the Land Rover crew were knowledgeable, friendly, and professional.
- JB, USA
Located in Wrangnell/St Elias National Park, the largest national park in the USA as well as being the largest protected land mass on earth. Arriving by plane allows you to take in the views of the wilderness and admire the pure beauty of isolation. Hidden is Ultima Thule Lodge, a little gem set by the river. Your hosts are the Claus family who founded and run this special hideaway lodge. From August - to September the northern lights can be viewed.
There is no need to plan ahead here, the philosophy is to let the wilderness guide you and form your activities and ultimately create your own adventure. From a wildlife perspective moose, bears can be seen. But it is the spectacular scenery the feeling that no one else may have ever stepped foot on that piece of land before is what makes Ultima Thule Lodge so special and a rare glimpse at the world before civilisation.
Best time to be there
Make the most of long days and the best weather by travelling between June and September during this time the days are long (19 hours of daylight in June) and nature is in full bloom. Sadly the weather in this part of the world isn't predictable. During the summertime days can be pleasantly warm, even hot, but this can be followed in equal measure by rain, fog and then sun again.
Seattle (10 hrs) and then onto Anchorage (3 hrs 40) or Juneau (2 hrs 30)
GMT -8 hours
ESTA Visa required for UK Passport Holders
Travel insurance is highly recommended as health bills can be high in the USA.
