Day 1 London / Buenos Aires
Begin your journey to Antarctica with an overnight flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina's chic capital city (international flights not included).

Day 2 Buenos Aires
You will be met at the International Airport by your A&K guide on arrival, and transferred to your hotel. Once settled in, you may like to explore the sights of the 'Paris of South America', tracing the history that has shaped this iconic city.

Day 3 Buenos Aires
Enjoy a tour this morning, joined by your fellow Antarctic travellers, exploring the sights and sounds of Buenos Aires. Return to your hotel for a free afternoon. In the evening, meet up again with your group for cocktails at the Sofitel Buenos Aires.

Day 4 Buenos Aires / Ushuaia
After an early morning coffee at the hotel, transfer to Buenos Aires Domestic Airport for your A&K charter flight with to Tierra del Fuego and the world's southernmost town of Ushuaia. On arrival, enjoy lunch at the Arakur resort and, time and weather permitting, take a guided trek in the Cerro Alarken Nature Reserve or simply relax and enjoy the views of Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel. Later, board ‘Le Lyrial’ and settle into your cabin, where you can take in views right from your own private balcony. Walk the decks and familiarise yourself with the luxury cruiser, your home for the next 15 nights at sea. You may even want to toast to your journey in the bar with your fellow guests.

Day 5 At Sea
As you sail south toward the Falkland Islands, your lecturers begin their informal series of enlightening discussions on the flora, fauna and the history of the region. Additionally, a professional staff photographer will be on hand to assist you with specific camera questions and lead lectures focusing on specific photo skills throughout your cruise. The cool waters in these parts are rich in krill, making them a favourite with local wildlife searching for food. Alongside your naturalist guides, spot various species of whales and seabirds from Le Lyrials deck.

Day 6 Port Stanley or Southeast Falklands, Falkland Islands
Spend the day exploring the Falklands. Depending on your itinerary, you either visit Stanley, the Falklands' capital), strolling its charming streets and exploring the surrounding wilderness areas. You may also discover the Southeast Falkland Islands, home to unspoiled wildlife habitats of Bleaker or Sea Lion Islands). These landings depend on local conditions and the discretion of your Captain and Expedition Leader.

Days 7 - 8 At Sea
As the ship approaches South Georgia, deck-side sightings of whales, seals and other wildlife become more frequent. The time spent cruising is once again filled with informative lectures - as well as casual talks with your guides that soon have you scanning the seas like an expert.

Days 9 - 11 South Georgia
South Georgia is a nearly submerged continuation of the Andes mountain range, and your days here are spent exploring its glacier-carved coves and rugged shores. Visit Salisbury Plain, St. Andrews Bay or Gold Harbour, all home to vast colonies of king penguins as well as fur and elephant seals. You also have the opportunity to retrace part of the route taken by Ernest Shackleton during his historic crossing of South Georgia in 1916. Weather permitting, you may visit his gravesite in Grytviken alongside your on-board historian, an expert on the great explorer's life.

Days 12 - 13 At Sea
During your time cruising the Scotia Sea - rich with marine mammals and fish - your expert lecturers recap your adventures in South Georgia. They also enlighten you with more enriching lectures of what's to come once you set foot on the Seventh Continent, from the terrain to the hardy wildlife that inhabits this forbidding but beautiful environment.

Days 14 - 16 Antarctica
As the Antarctic Peninsula and its offshore islands appear on the horizon, a sense of excitement begins to build. While day-to-day itineraries depend on the weather, water and wildlife conditions, two excursions are carefully planned for each day by the captain and expedition leader. Each cruise day begins with an early breakfast. Afterward, venture out in swift Zodiacs - guided by expert drivers and accompanied by lecturers, in groups of no more than 12 guests - to a number of sites, which may include the penguin-filled islands in the South Shetlands of Half Moon, Penguin or Deception; islands off the continental coastline such as Cuverville, Paulet or Vortex; and, weather permitting, the fabled Antarctic Peninsula. Le Lyrial” also plans to sail through Paradise Bay and the Lemaire Channel, referred to as 'Kodak Alley' for its stunning, camera-ready vistas of towering icebergs and deep blue waters.
After a morning exploring native species and striking terrain, return to Le Lyrial for lunch and perhaps some time to relax and scan the wildlife rich waters that surround you. In the afternoon, set out for the day's second excursion, which may include a visit to a scientific research station, the remains of turn-of the- century whaling and sealing stations, a sheltered beach teeming with basking elephant seals or simply circumnavigating colossal icebergs that serve as floating homes to seals and penguins. Return to your cruiser to relax and chat over cocktails in the comfortable lounge and enjoy dinner in the dining room. Afterward, you may choose to recap the day's discoveries with your naturalist guides or enjoy time on deck, taking photos in the stunning low light characteristic of Antarctica's long, ethereal twilight.

Days 17 - 18 Drake Passage
You leave the Antarctic Peninsula returning to Ushuaia via the Drake Passage. As you sail northwards the lecturers recap their presentations on the wildlife, history and geology of the White Continent. While cruising through this historic passage, named in honour of Sir Francis Drake's voyage in the 16th century, you may be able to spot marine mammals and seabirds such as albatross from the deck.

Day 19 Ushuaia / Buenos Aires
Early this morning you will disembark Le Lyrial. There is limited free time in town. Transfer to the airport for the flight to Buenos Aires International Airport, where you will be met and taken to your hotel. Evening dinner and tango show at Esquina Carlos Gardel.

Day 20 Buenos Aires
Meet your Abercrombie & Kent representative in the reception area of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your overnight flight to UK, arriving back in the UK the following day.

Overview of Programme
The Young Explorers Programme will be offered alongside the existing adult lectures that features ornithology, marine biology, history and geology. This gives Young Explorers a host of adventurous, fun and learning options to choose from during the expedition. This programme will feature art, writing and other related activities but above all will give the chance to be involved in all offered programmes and activities on board or simply those that they are interested in. Informative, fun and hands-on programmes will teach about the history and ecology of Antarctica, the Falkland Islands and South Georgia.

Dedicated Activities may include:

  • Digital photo workshop series on board as well as in the field.
  • Young Explorers field explorations in addition to the regular programme. This might include a unique field trip in the Falkland Islands, a visit with a researcher in Antarctica or a zodiac cruise focusing on specific interests.
  • Antarctic Inspired book, created by the group inspired by their explorations. A collection of writings, drawings and photographs from participants throughout the voyage to create a one-of-a-kind voyage scrapbook, which will be mailed to each contributor as a souvenir of the journey.
