Find out for yourself how our expertise sets us apart.
More Than 20 Years of Safe Operations
Since A&K began exploring the White Continent more than 20 years ago, our crew and staff have been hired based on their experience in Antarctic waters. A&K is a pioneer in Antarctic expeditions; we are a 22-year full member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators and have even had staff serve as advisors on tourism affairs at the annual Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM). A&K boasts an immaculate safety record, successfully completing more than 175 expeditions. What's more, each expedition team member has more than 17 years of experience on average - meaning you are in safe and extremely knowledgeable hands.
Expert Support from Beginning to End
Your extraordinary journey begins before you even set foot on board 'Le Boreal' - our home office staff boasts years of expertise in pre-planning every aspect of your journey. Our ground office in Buenos Aires, Argentina, provides around-the-clock support and ensures that strict A&K standards are always in place. In fact, A&K is the first international tour operator to establish fully owned local offices in South America, now in four countries. And A&K Antarctica journeys are all-inclusive, meaning that pre- and post-departure lodging and sightseeing, on-board lectures, shore excursions, equipment, most drinks, and crew and staff gratuity are included.
Safety First, at All Times
'Le Boreal' is equipped with the latest communication, navigation and safety equipment, including a GMDSS emergency communication system and a satellite weather system, receiving real-time satellite images of cruising conditions in the area. The staff, lecturers and crew alert passengers on safe conduct and current conditions both on board and ashore. English is the primary language aboard, so, in the unlikely event of an emergency, instructions will be clear.
Eco-Friendly Voyages
A&K operates under two equally important guidelines: to provide our passengers with comfort and safety and, at all times, to protect the integrity of the fragile Antarctic environment. A&K's Antarctica expeditions exceed all environmental protocols of operation as set by IAATO, the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Antarctic Treaty Party nations. We also focus on educating and providing guests the opportunity to participate in conservation efforts. In addition, 'Le Boreal' employs the latest environmental practices and technology, including:
- a computerized dynamic positioning system that eliminates the need to drop anchor in fragile marine reserves;
- thermal and phonic insulation in engines and propulsion systems to reduce energy consumption;
- the cleanest-burning marine gas oil fuel
- Zodiacs that feature fuel-efficient motors
A Blend of Luxury and Adventure
A voyage to the ends of the earth with A&K does not mean you forsake comfort. On the contrary - you experience A&K's legendary blend of luxury, adventure and authenticity at every step of your journey. On A&K departures, we exclusively charter 'Le Boreal' configuring it into the only all-balcony stateroom and suite vessel sailing to Antarctica today. It strikes the right balance between on-board amenities and full-fledged wilderness excitement.
Smaller Is Better
Unlike other travel companies - some carrying over 400 passengers, which limits their landing frequency to a maximum of once a day and number of sites they are allowed to land on - A&K's voyages are small enough to grant us Category I status. That means that there is no limit to the number of registered sites we can land on for shore excursions, providing countless possibilities to explore the best of the region according to the conditions of any particular day.
NEW FOR 2013
Personal Butlers on Board
Guests who book select cabin categories enjoy the best in personalized service, even at the ends of the earth: a butler on board throughout the journey. From ensuring your suite is always up to your standards to organizing private cocktails in your cabin and making spa appointments, your attentive butler responds to your every need, quickly and efficiently.
Pricing
At A&K all our Antarctica holidays and Antarctica cruises are individually tailored to suit your needs and timescale. However, as a guide, a 15 day Antarctic luxury cruise programme can be arranged from £8,995 per person including domestic flights, subject to availability and a programme of pre and post cruise tours and transfers in Argentina.
