Day 1 Concepción
Iberá – meaning ‘shining water’ in Guraní – is the second-largest wetland in the world. Yet few people know it exists, and even fewer explore this maze of bird-busy lagoons, channels and marshes on horseback. Concepción, on the edge of the wetlands, is a good jumping-off point for an equine adventure. In this time-warp town, with streets of sand, craft workshops and wooden houses, you begin to get a sense of what life is like for those who call Iberá home.
Nido de Pájaros

Day 2 Paraje Carambola-Ñupuy
Time to hop in the saddle. From the little village of Paraje Carambola, trot out into Iberá’s immensity of green, with nothing between you and the magnificence of nature. Naturally, there are streams to cross: while your saddlebags are paddled over by canoe, you can ride across bareback – the horses are super swimmers. It’s a unique thrill. Tuck into a picnic lunch, serenaded by birds, to fuel the rest of the ride, which leads via reedbeds, woodland and solitary ranches to reach tiny Ñupuy. Here, bed down like a gaucho in a rustic house by the river.
Ñupuy | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 Ñupuy-Paraje Carambola
The return ride to Paraje Carambola reveals more of this wetland’s verdant vastness. Splashing through the shallows and galloping through the long grasses, keep an eye out for the wilder locals such as grazing capybara (the world’s largest rodent) and endless bright-plumed birds. The modern world feels a long way away.
Nido de Pájaros | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 4 Santa Rosa OR Rincón del Socorro
You could bid farewell to Iberá after three nights – but why not stay awhile? Choose a five-night trip and head instead to Estancia Rincón del Socorro on the edge of the nature reserve, a former cattle ranch that’s now owned by the Conservation Land Trust. The best way to get there is by private turbo-prop plane – from this bird’s eye vantage the wetlands seem to stretch forever, forming eye-popping patterns of brilliant blue and emerald green. The late-19th-century estancia has been lovingly renovated; settle in with a wander around the flower-filled gardens and a lounge by the pool. Then take a late-afternoon drive with an expert guide, to look for wildlife and watch the sun sink into the shimmering waters.

Rincón del Socorro | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 Rincón del Socorro
Having explored the wetlands by horse, plane and 4WD, it’s time to take to a boat. There’s nothing like drifting across Iberá Lagoon, scanning for croc-like caiman, marsh deer, capybara and huge jabiru stork. The skies may be full of swooping birds, the treetops ringing with the shrieks of howler monkeys.
Rincón del Socorro | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 Leave Rincón del Socorro
Get one last glimpse of this unique ecosystem as you fly off for the rest of your Argentine adventure.
Meals: Breakfast
