Why we like it

  • Set in the heart of the world's largest reef system, the island itself is comprised of just over 1,300 hectares of pristine National Park
  • Luxury beachfront rooms, suites and villas
  • Enjoy the island's signature dining experience, Dining with the Tides
  • The award-winning wine cellar features both iconic and boutique wines of Australia
  • One of the few private island resorts of Queensland which can be booked for exclusive use

A&K Top Tip

Enjoy a sunrise stroll on the beach alongside the island's resident colony of sea eagles.

Guest Testimonial

First experience with A&K. Intended to ask various travel companies for quotes but Vicky (Hamlin) was so good with her suggestions that we did not seek alternative quotations the suggested itinerary was excellent and helped us decide on a balanced and interesting holiday.

Free from reef day-trippers, Orpheus is a rare island getaway where you can enjoy complete tropical escapism miles away from the trappings of daily life. Reached by a short helicopter flight from Townsville, Orpheus resort originally began as a humble guesthouse in the 1930s with just a few beach huts scattered across the coastline. Today the resort has grown into one of the most sought-after tropical destinations in Queensland, with the original beach huts having been transformed into luxurious beachfront rooms, suites and villas catering for no more than 28 guests at a time.

Differentiating itself from other luxury Queensland resort's, Orpheus Island offers an abundance of incredible island experiences: we like grabbing a gourmet picnic from the chef before jumping into a private motorised dinghy and heading out to discover the nearby bays and reefs, or the exciting fishing trip ending with the day's catch grilled over an open fire on the white sands of a nearby cove. Here you can also embark on a tour of the culturally rich neighbouring atoll led by the island's indigenous people.

Motorised dinghies, paddle skis, catamarans, canoes, fishing gear, guided nature walks through the national park and snorkel equipment are all included in your stay, so there's no excuse not to explore the island's untouched beaches and amazing sea-life. If you are looking for something a little special, seaplane charters and luxury cruises can all be arranged on request at a charge.

Flying Fish
From exploring tropical islands to cruising through the blue pacific, Flying Fish Super Yacht has been designed to provide world-class standard of accommodation. Sleeping up to eight guests in six large and luxurious suites, as well as the highly skilled and professional crew members, her elegant and well-appointed interior displays a tasteful selection of natural woods, rattan and golden oak complemented by Versace furnishings. With an impressive 40m hull, there is an expanse of outdoor space to be enjoyed; relax in the sundeck's bubbling spa beneath the stars, sip on a glass of something chilled in the private bar or take an afternoon nap on one of the comfortable sun beds. Whether you're in the mood for flying or fishing, the vessel is supported by its own Squirrel helicopter, amphibious Sealegs tender and two Pirate game boats.
