South West Wineries

Australia, 5 Nights

Western Australia's capital, Perth, is a vibrant and modern city beautifully set on the banks of the Swan River. Head south and the countryside greens, with the artistic town of Margaret River at the heart of verdant hills and prestigious wineries.

Day 1 - Perth/Margaret River
On arrival in Perth collect your rental car and drive along the South Western Highway stopping at Bunbury and Busselton Jetty along the way to Cape Lodge for a two night stay. Meander your way through an extraordinary area of Western Australia where you will see giant Karri trees, sun soaked vineyards and magnificent coastal scenery.

Day 2 - Margaret River
Today you will tour around the Margaret River wine region with your very own wine consultant. Walk through a vineyard and learn the importance of creating quality fruit. Meet the maker and/or owner from both internationally renowned estates and boutique wineries with a personal introduction to their wines. Experience invited private barrel tastings and tour 'behind the scenes' in a working winery. After lunch, complete your day with an olive oil tasting and a private tour of the production facitlity. Or, alternatively, sample some of the fortified wines unique to the Margaret River region, or take a private bush walk with a Wardandi Aboriginal and be treated to a didgeridoo serenade.

Day 3 - Margaret River/Denmark
Depart Cape Lodge with a farewell gift of Cape Lodge Estate grown wine. En route to Denmark visit the limestone formations of Jewel Cave just outside of Margaret River and drive the glorious coastline of Cape Leeuwin. In Pemberton, be sure to visit the famous Gloucester Tree in the Karri forest that towers more than 60 metres above the forest floor. Visit the 'Valley of the Giants' and do the tree top walk, where you can explore the tingle forest at canopy level. Continue your drive along the stunning coastline via Nornalup Inlet and Walpole to Denmark. Finally arrive at Denmark Observatory Resort for your two night stay.

Day 4 - Denmark
Today is at leisure to continue to explore the region. Local attractions include Elephant Rocks, William Bay and Green's Pool, one of the best swimming beaches in Australia.

Day 5 - Denmark/Albany
This morning continue to drive along the stunning southern coastline to Albany. Visit the site of Australia's last operating whaling station, Whale World, for a private tour. Explore an actual whaling ship, watch the world's first 3-D animated whale film and see the world's largest marine mammal painting collection. The remainder of your day is at leisure to further explore the region. Albany is home to beautiful sandy beaches that are surrounded by cliffs. Continue to The Beachhouse at Bayside for your one night stay.

Day 6 - Albany/Perth
Make your way back to Perth, stopping at Stirling Range where there is an abundance of easy and pleasant walking tracks that lead to stunning views across the landscape.
