Bhutan, 7 Nights
Bhutan, land of the 'Thunder Dragon' and now land of the tiger. However, seeing tigers in Bhutan is extremely rare due to the nature of the terrain where they have recently been discovered but we do have some excellent tiger safaris in India.
Day 1 - Delhi/Paro
Arrive into Paro on Druk Air and transfer to Amankora for a two night stay. In the afternoon, there is an opportunity for a quick stroll to the nearby ruins or down Paro's main street. Evenings at Amankora include informative lectures on the history, religion, flora and fauna of the region.
Day 2 - Paro
Your second day offers a full tour of Paro with a visit to the National Museum, Paro Dzong and a trek up to the magnificent Taktshang Goemba (Tiger's Nest).
Day 3 - Paro/Punakha
After breakfast, the drive follows the river and climbs up the mountain pass of Dochu La. Sights en route include Simtokha Dzong and ancient wall paintings at the Hongtsho Goemba monastery. Overnight at Amankora Punakha .
Day 4 - Punakha
A full day to explore this scenic valley with a relaxing picnic lunch.
Day 5 - Punakha/Thimphu
Depart from Punakha and travel to Thimpu. Overnight at Amankora Thimphu after an afternoon exploring the area. The hotel is located on a ridge overlooking the capital.
Day 6- Thimphu
A full day to explore Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. At an altitude of 2,350m, Thimphu lies in a steep valley surrounded by mountains. Attractions include the Folk Heritage Museum, the National Textile Museum and the Painting School. For a real insight into Bhutanese life, then a visit to the Weekend Market is a must.
Day 7 - Thimphu/Paro
Enjoy a trip to the untouched Haa Valley only recently opened to tourists returning to Paro for a final overnight stay at Amankora.
Day 8 - Paro/Onward Journey
Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
