Cultural Capital - 3 nights

Bhutan, 3 Nights

Located in the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu, The Taj Tashi is the perfect base to explore the spectacular monasteries and scenic mountain passes.

Day 1 - Thimphu
Arrive Thimphu and transfer to the Taj Pashi. After lunch, visit the Textile Museum. The museum has a good collection of samples including rare antiques from the Royal Family. Next it is onto the Folk Heritage Museum. Built in the form of a traditional Bhutanese House, there are demonstrations showcasing traditions such as husking rice. After a short visit to the Zorig Chusum School, which teaches the techniques of traditional painting carving and weaving, the final visit of the day is to Tashichodzong. Also known as 'The Fortress of the Glorious Religion', the Dzong houses the main the throne room of His Majesty, the King of Bhutan.

Day 2 - Punakha

After breakfast, depart Taj Pashi for a full day trip to Punakha. Driving through the Dochula Pass at 10,000 feet where there are 108 chortens decorated with colourful prayer flags. On a clear day you can see breathtaking views of the mountain ranges extending into Tibet. A picnic lunch will be served by the riverside, close to the Punakha Dzong. Built in 1637, the Dzong was strategically positioned at the junction of the Pho-Chhu and Mo-Chhu rivers. After lunch, a visit is made to Chime Lhakhang, dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley. You will return to hotel in time for dinner.

Day 3 - Tango Monastery/Thimpu
Take a hike to Tango Monastery. Set at 280 metres, the trek takes about an hour. After lunch back at the hotel, there is time to do some more sightseeing around the capital, including a visit to the Institute of Traditional Medicine and a traditional paper factory.

Day 4 - Depart Thimphu
After breakfast, depart Thimphu for your onward journey.
