Amankora, Gangtey

Trekking , Bhutan

NEED TO KNOW

  • Amankora Gangtey lies in the little-visited Phobjikha Valley near the isolated village of Gangtey
  • A family style dining experience offers Western and Bhutanese food as well as an assortment of local and imported beverages
  • Spa facilities include two treatment rooms and changing areas, and a variety of treatments
  • Other facilities and activities include bars and lounges, a library, archery, fishing, trekking, golf and white water rafting, as well as excursions to Gangtey Village and Gangtey Goemba

THE HOTEL
Amankora incorporates a series of lodges, all unique and sympathetically balanced with their environment. Together, the lodges create a circular pilgrimage through Bhutan's breathtakingly spectacular central and western valleys.

The eight room Amankora Gangtey is positioned on a forested knoll close to the valley floor. A winding track leads through the forest and descends to the lodge, which enjoys sweeping views of the valley landscape. Accommodation is set in in one rammed-earth building along with the combined living and dining room. The eight suites offer an open plan bedroom and bathing area. Each contains traditional bukhari, terrazzo-clad bath, shower, vanity, and daybed offering views across the valley.

Best time to be there

Bhutan offers warm days and cool nights all year round. October and November are arguably the best months, when the monsoon has passed and the skies are clear for mountain photography. The spring months of March, April and May are best for the flora, but it can be stormy as the monsoon builds up for July-September.
