Mergui Archipelago
Best time to be there
Burma has three clear seasons: from March to May are the very hot summer months, the wet and humid monsoon runs from May to October and the cold dry winter lasts from November to February. The best time of year to visit is late November early December when the rains have gone, the landscape is lush and green and the skies are crystal clear. However any time from late November to March is a good time to travel.

The Mergui archipelago must be one of the last untouched tropical island systems left on earth. This gem in the south of Burma is home to two hotels, one of which is a casino near the Thai border and the other a guest house situated on the stunning Mcleod Island two hours boat ride from the mainland. Very few of the nine hundred or so islands have permanent habitation and save for a few fishermen and the Mogon sea gypsies you are more than likely to encounter nothing but dolphins and verdant green islands and azure blue seas and tropical reefs if you make the trip to this stunning area of an untouched country.
This remoteness has one drawback and that is accommodation. You have two options and they are to charter your own yacht out of Phuket or indeed hop on a live-aboard dive boat to visit this chain of islands or to stay at the very simple but clean Burma Andaman Resort which has its own dive school and water sports centre.
