Clayoquot Wilderness Resort

Why we like it

  • Beautiful tented camp in one of the world’s only temperate rainforests
  • Remote and secluded – accessible only by seaplane
  • Camp accommodates a maximum of 40 people at any one time

A&K Top Tip

The resort's 'walk the wildside' all day adventure is a great opportunity to observe the wildlife in their natural habitat both from a boat and on the shore.

Guest Testimonial

The Wickaninnish Inn was a great hotel, we had a great room with a good view of the ocean. The service was perfect and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.

- K Heisterberg, Denmark

An intimate retreat in the picture-postcard backwaters of Clayoquot Sound in British Columbia, Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is a wildlife lover’s haven and the place to spot black bears, wolves, cougars, grey whales, orcas and bald eagles, with excellent viewings until the end of September. There are 15 luxury en suite tents and five deluxe outpost tents. The luxury tents are furnished with a king or queen-size bed, en suite bathroom with under-floor heating, flushing toilet and a beautiful large indoor/outdoor shower.

If its beautiful cluster of tents weren’t remote enough, the new addition will literally take your breath away. Set at 1,400 metres above sea level, Cloud Camp is a mountaintop sanctuary only accessible by the resort’s onsite helicopter. For one night only you’ll be whisked up into the clouds, where you can hike around your own private lake, dine under the stars with a five-course meal created by your very own chef and then nod off under canvas in a luxury tent that makes traditional camping look like a modern form of torture.

The resort is all-inclusive and the resident chef prepares clean, simple, fresh food full of natural flavour. Signature dishes include oyster chowder and prosciutto-wrapped halibut. The team is close-knit, friendly and relaxed. They’re proud of their wilderness resort and the efforts they’ve made to protect the wildlife. All marine and land adventures are non-intrusive and conservancy-driven – in fact the resort has been heavily involved in restoring salmon streams and mapping bear habitats. Every evening the Activities Directors will sit with you and design your adventures for the next day depending on weather, tidal charts, animal sightings and your interests and abilities. You can choose to from riding, kayaking, whale-watching, bear-tracking, hiking, fishing, climbing, zip-lining and mountain biking. All the kit is provided – overalls, waders, wellington boots, riding boots, helmets, life jackets, dry-suits, fishing gear, and mountain bikes – so there’s no need to bring special equipment with you.
