Day 2 Santiago
Santiago is a dizzying mix of European cultures, Andean vibes and mesmerising mountain views. This afternoon explore with your guide its trendy neighbourhoods, which according to the New York Times are pushing the cities 'style revolution', beg to be explored on foot. Take a day to wander the wide boulevards, gaze up at the imposing architecture and get lost in some of the best museums and galleries which South America has to offer, all at your own lazy Latin pace.

Day 3 Day trip to Valparaiso
A maze of quaint cobbled streets and pretty coloured houses clamour up the hills of this charming city. Here some of Latin America's best street art fights for space on colourful flowerpot laden alleys;and poets, philosophers and artists throng to soak up the vibe of this deeply romantic city. We are pretty sure you will be as smitten by it as Chile's art elite, especially after visiting the Nobel prize winning poet Pablo Neruda's house on the hill, with a jaw dropping view of the ocean.

Day 4 Santiago / Atacama
Get ready to embrace desert life as you fly away from buzzing civilisation to the tranquil moon like Atacama desert. Your hop off point is Calama the gateway to the geological and archaeological wonders of the central desert but we will whisk you off to pretty San Pedro de Atacama where you can channel your inner bohemian as you potter round it's charming adobe flanked streets. It has a laid back artistic vibe encouraged by the heat and colourful indigenous culture.

Days 5 - 6 Atacama
The surreal lunar landscape of the Atacama Desert although a seemingly never-ending wilderness holds a treasure trove of unexpected treats in the shape of punchy pink flamingos, steaming geysers, snow capped volcanoes and some truly extraordinary vegetation. It's far from the dry and arid desert you might expect. You have 2 days to explore this unspoilt playground –hit up the dunes on a 4WD adventure, float horses down sand dunes, take a morning dip in a bubbling geyser or hike up one of the many stunning volcanoes or rock formations. You can relax at night gazing at the sparkling skies above, the region said to have some of the world's best stargazing.

Day 7 Atacama / Wine Country
You swap one spectacular destination for another, and we take the pain out of leaving the Atacama by plonking you in the heart of the gloriously green Casablanca Valley in Chiles verdurous wine country. Here a Mediterranean climate conjures up the perfect terroir for the crisp white wine it produces, also perfect conditions to kick back in lazy-hazy relaxation and enjoy them. We won't hang around but leave you in your intimate wine lodge set in oh-so-pretty gardens from where you can explore the estate on foot, horseback or simply laze by the pool after a personal wine tasting session.

Day 9 Wine Country / Torres del Paine
Today takes you to one of Chile's greatest treasures, In good conditions the flight South to Patagonia is a truly awe-inspiring one and you see the spectacular views of the Southern ice field, glaciers, crater lakes and volcanoes lofty peaks as you descend towards Torres del Paine National Park.You won't notice the landscape changing much on the long but dramatic drive from the airport but will be richly rewarded as you turn off the main highway towards those infamous spikey peaks of Torres del Paine National Park, where suddenly a whole new world of fiery gorse, sculpturesque trees and roaming guanacos awaits you.

Day 10 - 11 Torres del Paine
Striking out over the next 3 days from your luxurious lodge you will be rewarded by the dramatic sights of the park as you gulp in lungfuls of fresh air, under a breathtakingly big sky.This majestic landscape is crying out to be explored on foot, horseback, mountain bike and boat. You will discover lakes, glaciers and granite peaks and big sky tracks topped by otherworldly cloud formations. After roaming this adventurer's playground slip into the spa or snug down by a roaring fire and indulge in lip smacking local cuisine. Then wake up and do it all again.

Day 12 Torres del Paine / Santiago
Nothing beats the feeling of days spent in the crisp unpolluted air Patagonia is so famous for, and you will return to Santiago today with a spring in your step ready to hit up the hip Bellavista quarter, the arts hub of the city where you can spend your last night in Chile at a classic jazz concert or out in the setting city sun enjoying a sumptuous dinner at one of Santiago's fine seafood restaurants.

Day 13 Santiago / UK

After a day sauntering through the city's gloriously cosmopolitan streets, stocking up on souvenirs and having one last leisurely lunch in one of the superb cafes it's time to return home. You'll return on an overnight flight –or, why not extend your adventure by heading out to the remote and mysterious Easter Island!?

Best time to be there

As the climate varies hugely from north to south, different places are best at different times, although spring (September to December) is universally good. Atacama can be visited year-round, central Chile enjoys a Mediterranean climate with good weather throughout. Patagonia is best for hiking in Spring or Summer.
