DAY 6: El Calafate
Drive to the magnificent Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the few remaining advancing glaciers in the world. There are seven ‘balconies’ (walkways) to explore, located at different heights and distances from the glacier, each with magnificent views of the glacier’s northern and southern faces. After lunch in the park, take a boat trip across Lake Rico, passing the icebergs that have calved off the front of the glacier. As it arrives at the Icebergs Channel, the boat stops to allow time to take in the spectacular views and the constantly calving walls of ice.

It’s the beginning of three days of exploration in the world-famous Torres del Paine National Park, led by expert guides. There is a huge choice of expeditions and activities on offer: riding, trekking, kayaking, boating, mountain biking and birding. You’ll have the opportunity to meet local residents and visit farms and ranches developed by the region’s early pioneers, for an insight into Patagonia’s history and rural ways of life. The iconic landscape was created by tectonic movements – the last ice age formed its rugged landscape and the movements of glaciers have continued to reshape it. A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the park is renowned for its landscape of jagged granite spires, flora and fauna.
