Guilin is regarded in China as the country's most picturesque city and its reputation as one of the world's most beautiful places has been established over hundreds of years, how ranking  2nd on China's list of Top 10 best destinations.

The city's stunning landscape has a magic that is all its own, from its two crystal-clear rivers overlooked by mountains and karsts, to its verdant vegetation ranging from bamboo to conifers, to its wonderful caves.

Guilin has been the political, economic and cultural centre of Guangxi since the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127).  It is also an important cultural city with a history encompassing more than 2,000 years. The many ethnic minorities represented here that include the Zhuang, Yao, Hui, Miao, Mulao, Maonan and Dong, enrich the cultural life of the city. Each minority has its own unique customs and festivals and this means that they are much more abundant here than elsewhere in China.
