Day 1 UK/Beijing
Board your flight to Beijing.

Day 2 Beiijing
Having landed in the bustling, brightly-lit capital Beijing, a member of the A&K team will be waiting to drive you to your hotel. Spend an enchanting afternoon exploring a few of the city’s best art galleries which showcase works by both international and local artists.

Day 3 Beijing/Kunming
Fly on to Kunming, the capital and largest city in Yunnan.

Day 4 Kunming / Dali
Spend the morning absorbed in history and culture of the province at the Bamboo Temple and Yunnan Provincial Museum before setting off for Dali.

Day 5 Dali
Today you'll drive from Dali to the Xizhou to see well-preserved Bai architecture and browse the colourful market. In nearby Zhoucheng, you’ll visit the famous blue and white batik workshops and, after lunch back in Dali's Old Town, you'll head to the striking Three Pagodas, three intricate pagoda towers arranged on the corners of an equilateral triangle

Day 6 Dali / Lijiang
Spend the morning exploring the walled city of Dali before driving to Lijiang where you'll be staying at the Banyan Tree for three nights.

Day 7 Lijiang
Drive to the villages of Baisha and Longquan to see the ancient frescoes and a glimpse of Naxi culture. Back in Lijiang later in the morning, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the quaint Old Town, where a maze of narrow streets is crisscrossed by canals and ancient bridges. After lunch, a stroll through Black Dragon Pool Park will deliver spectacular views of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. There’ll be time to visit the Dongba Museum before a local dance performance in the evening.

Day 8 Lijiang
Lashi Hai Lake is a wetland reserve where you can spot birds and gain a glimpse into rural life; you’ll be able to spend some time here before heading off to ancient Shigu Town which stands on a sharp bend of the mighty Yangtze River.

Day 9 Lijiang / Zhongdian
Today you'll be driven Zhongdian, stopping en route at Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest canyons in the world. After lunch you’ll continue on to Songtsam Retreat at Shangri-La where you’ll be staying for three nights.

Day 10 Zhongdian
Zhongdian has been declared the location of James Hilton's fictional Shangri-La, and this is where a day of sightseeing begins, starting at the 300-year old Songzanglin Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan, crammed full of treasures. After lunch you’ll have the opportunity to explore Ringha's market and Old Town.

Day 11 Zhongdian
The Napa Hai Forest Reserve is home to an array of bird species including the rare black-necked crane (from September to March). While you are here, you’ll meet some of the villagers and explore the scenic Moon Crescent Gorge.

Day 12 Zhongdian / UK
You'll be driven to the airport for your morning flight to London, via Hong Kong.

While there are differences in the climate according to the region in China, it is best to travel in Spring and Autumn when the weather is not too hot nor freezing cold. But we also pay attention to festival periods and special occasions.
