THE HOTEL
The Hotel Fonda Vela is located in beautiful Monteverde, famous for its cloud forest and climate - often referred to as "eternal spring". The views of the Gulf of Nicoya from the hotel's 1,400 metre elevation are spectacular, and it is an ideal destination from which to enjoy the wonders of the tropics.
Surrounded by beautiful gardens, the hotel buildings blend into the lush, tropical mountainside. The rooms are cosy, yet elegant, spacious and comfortable. Each room is designed with the surroundings in mind, for example with large windows help to bring the outdoors inside.
Inside, the rooms are beautifully appointed, mixing neutral colours and expanses of polished wood panelling with original artworks and floral patterns to create a homely, cosy feel.
The area around the hotel is home to an exceptional biodiversity as well as wonderful landscapes. Accordingly, a wide range of excursions are designed to ensure guests truly experience the beauty of Costa Rica's highlands.
December to March is generally considered the dry season. Temperatures rise in April and the rains arrive on the Pacific side from May to November. The Atlantic side has no specific dry season but there is less rainfall between March and September.
