Enjoy one of the privileges of the natural world with the chance to observe green sea turtles nesting on golden beaches. Tortuguero National Park on Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast is a wonderful place from which to see these creatures come ashore at night to lay their eggs and hatch their young (July to September), a protected habitat that ensures the safety not only of the turtles but of their surrounding habitat. Leatherback turtles may also be seen March - June. Observation tours by night to see the turtles are carefully managed so as not to disturb their fragile environment and minimise the human impact on the surrounding area.
During the day explore the unique network of natural waterways leading out to the sea by boat, spotting wildlife and birdlife from its unique series of waterways exploring rainforest, mangroves, wetlands and the coastal beaches. Discover these channels and coves by boat, looking out for alligators, iguanas, monkeys and a myriad of bird life.
