Mozambique
BEACH SUNSET SCENE: in Mozambique with small sailboat
Mozambique is rapidly rising in popularity as a holiday destination.
The beaches are the perfect place to escape to after a South African safari as there are now flights from Johannesburg and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport into Vilanculos - gateway to the beautiful Bazaruto Archipelago, a marine national park. Benguerra Island covers an area of 55 square kilometres and has a wide variety of ecosystems. Below the water there are marine grass meadows, making it a refuge for dugongs. For the water sports enthusiast, Benguerra offers a range of activities. Snorkelling, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing are the most popular attractions. Inland, mangroves, freshwater lakes, swamp forests and sand dunes are there to be explored by Land Rover or on guided tours.
Further north, the islands are easily accessed from East Africa. Vamizi and Quilalea host an underwater paradise with sharks, whales and dolphins regular visitors to the region. Ibo Island and Londo Lodge are also situated to the north of Mozambique and offer culture and relaxation.
