- Napo Jungle Lodge is located on the edge of Lake Aññangu, in the heart iof the Napo Wildlife Centre, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the largest tract of tropical rain forest in Ecuador
- The lodge has a large dining hall and a well-stocked bar. The bar has a 50-foot viewing tower from which you can see the Andes on a clear day
- Other facilities include a 120-foot canopy tower deep in the forest, a boutique and a library. But the lodge's real magic is its location and the opportunity to observe rainforest life in abundance
THE HOTEL
Napo Jungle Lodge was built in conjunction with EcoEcuador, a non-profit organisation dedicated to conservation efforts in Ecuador. It consists of ten comfortable cabañas with en suite bathrooms and private terraces. A private and unique lodge, only open to a selected number of guests, it provides an exclusive and personalised rain forest experience. Its unrivalled nature attractions and biodiversity include two unique, easy access parrot and macaw clay licks, 565 bird species, 11 species of monkey, Giant Otters and other large mammals such as Brazilian tapir, White-lipped peccary, all species of caiman, Anacondas and many, many more.
Day 1 - Quito/Napo
Mid-morning flight to Coca. Local-style bus transfer for 10 minutes or so to the port of Francisco de Orellana where motorised canoes wait to take you down-river for two hours. On arrival at the Napo Wildlife Reserve, switch to dugout canoes and glide up Black Water Creek to the lodge.
Day 2 - Napo
Early morning wake-up call to visit one of the best parrot clay licks in Ecuador (subject to weather). Here, the parrots gather in noisy colourful flocks to gnaw the red earth. Day time optional guided walk with a member of the local Indian community. Evening option to observe the caiman around the lake.
Day 3 - Napo
Dawn bird watching opportunity from the 50ft observation tower, allowing for excellent views once reserved for flocks of vibrantly coloured tanagers as well as capuchin and howler monkeys. After breakfast, explore the lakes by dugout canoe for an excellent opportunity to spot the elusive Giant Otter or the inquisitive pink dolphin. Afternoon trek in the primary forest. Optional nocturnal walk.
Day 4 - Napo/Quite
Early journey by dugout canoe back to the Napo River for the motorised canoe journey to Coca. Midday flight to Quito.
June to September is the best time to enjoy the Andes whilst the Galapagos are best from April to August - not too warm and plenty of animals in their breeding seasons.
