South of Quito is a world of volcanoes and mountains. The area was named the Avenue of Volcanoes by the German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt who visited Ecuador at the beginning of the 19th Century. At 5,900 metres, Cotopaxi volcano is the highest active volcano in the world, dominating the area and providing an incredible backdrop for several haciendas and Cotopaxi National Park. Enjoy the fantastic Andean landscape of snow-capped volcanoes, hot springs and verdant valleys, whilst enjoying the warmth of traditional haciendas.
