The Plaza Grande represents the first luxury hotel to be located in Quito's old colonial district, also known as the 'Reliquary of American Art' and a World Heritage Site. Originally the home of Juan Diaz de Hidalgo, one of the Spanish conquerors who founded Quito at the beginning of the 16th Century, this legendary, neoclassical building has always been renowned for its elegance and grandeur. Today Plaza Grande offers only 15 beautifully furnished suites combining the flavour of yesteryear with the modern requirements of the day. The hotel's La Belle Époque dining room is decorated with regal French gold and reds, overlooks the Plaza and specializes in gourmet French cuisine. Then there is the Café Plaza Grande which serves traditional local cuisine and The Cloister Wine Bar.

June to September is the best time to enjoy the Andes whilst the Galapagos are best from April to August - not too warm and plenty of animals in their breeding seasons.
