Best time to be there

Winter (October to April) for cultural trips, although May to September is great for the Red Sea. Ramadan is a particularly exciting time to be in Egypt - it is celebrated here with more exuberance than anywhere else in the world.

Dakhla Oasis has a population of about 70,000 people. Dakhla is considered by many to be Egypt's most beautiful oasis. Dakhla Oasis consists of fourteen villages and dozens of smaller hamlets which each hold remarkable characteristics in terms of customs, architecture and cultivations. The presence of twelve international archaeological missions may indicate the significance of the oasis' history.

Visit the splendid villages and fortresses of Al Qasr and Balat, the Roman buried city of Amheida, known as the Pompeii of the Sahara, the temple of Deir El Hagar and several other sites.

Experience the beautiful White Desert Protected Area or the neighbouring Kharga Oasis on a Land Rover trip from your accommodation.

Take a trip to Gilf Kebir National Park and visit the martian terrains, lunar features, volcanic and meteorite craters as well as the richest prehistoric rock-art caves in Africa.

Be guided by native Bedouins, who will introduce you to the Nomad's culture and offer you a memorable experience of travelling the desert in Arabian style. Drift with your camel across pure desert and fall into the wise pace of the caravan. Watch the sunset behind distant dunes, gather with Arabs around the fire for herbal tea and desert stories. Take pictures that will remain in your family album for generations to come.

We have handpicked the Al Tarfa Sanctuary Lodge for your stay in this unknown region of Egypt.

Guest Testimonial

Quite simply excellent. If I could say one thing it is that Egypt is the place to go right now, as there were virtually no tourists at some of the sights and that,I should think, is quite rare!
