Spirit of Egypt

Egypt, 6 Nights

See the classical sights of Egypt in a nutshell with three nights in Cairo and 3 nights aboard A&K's Nile Adventurer cruise boat.

Day 1 - London/Cairo.

Fly from London Heathrow with bmi arriving to bustling Cairo in the late afternoon. Transfer to the centrally located Semiramis InterContinental in time for dinner in one of the wide variety of restaurants on offer.

Day 2 - Cairo.
After a leisurely morning explore the fascinating Egyptian Antiquities Museum where you will discover many unbelievable archaeological treasures, including the riches of Tutankhamun. Silently view the Mummies Room, a specially-built area dedicated to the well-preserved mummies of 11 Royal Kings and Queens of Ancient Egypt, including the Great Ramses II, Egypt's longest ruling pharaoh.

Day 3 - Cairo.

Spend the morning at the magnificent Pyramids at Giza and huge Sphinx with time to behold the unique Solar Boat Museum. The afternoon is at leisure or you may choose from the many sights of Cairo, ask your consultant for details.

Day 4 - Cairo/Aswan.
Early this morning fly to Aswan to join your floating home Nile Adventurer. Meet your Egyptologist guide who will escort you around the classical sights of Aswan. Enjoy a short motorboat ride to visit the romantic and majestic Philae Temple on the Island of Agilka. See the Granite Quarries, which supplied the ancient Egyptians with most of the hard stone used in pyramids and temples, and still holds a huge unfinished obelisk. A relaxing afternoon tea awaits your return to boat. Served in the lounge enjoy a range of teas and herbal infusions, fresh coffee and a selection of freshly baked homemade cake and cookies. Late this evening learn more about Egyptian life with our Boat Manager whilst sipping Egyptian wine or local beer, served together with a selection of canapés before dinner.

Day 5 - Aswan/Esna.
Cruise leisurely to Kom Ombo to see the temple dedicated to the crocodile-god Sobek. The temple stands at a bend in the Nile where in ancient times sacred crocodiles basked in the sun on the riverbank. Cruise onto Edfu with time to enjoy a leisurely lunch. Explore the largest and most completely preserved Pharaonic - albeit Greek-built - temple in Egypt, the extraordinary Temple of Horus at Edfu.  Dress up in traditional Egyptian "galabeyas" for a lavish buffet of Egyptian specialities, followed by Oriental music and dancing.

Day 6 - Esna/Luxor.
Be amazed in the Valley of the Kings and Queens, a vast City of the Dead where magnificent tombs were carved into the desert rocks, decorated richly, and filled with treasures for the afterlife by generations of Pharaohs. Rising out of the desert plain in a series of terraces walk to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut which merges with the sheer limestone cliffs that surround it. Explore the fabled temples of Luxor and Karnak and see the great "Hypostyle Hall"  an incredible forest of giant pillars.

Day 7 - Luxor/Cairo/London.

Fly to Cairo to connect with your international flight to London, or alternatively extend for a leisurely stay on the Red Sea at the sophisticated Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh.
