Day 1 UK/Luxor
A short flight from the UK transports you to Luxor, capital of the Upper Nile, a city of ancient temples, horse-drawn fiacres and balloon flights at dawn. The luxurious Sanctuary Sun Boat (III or IV) is docked and ready – your home for the next seven nights. A chilled juice and a warm welcome awaits you on board.

Day 2 Luxor/Dendarah/Luxor
There’s no better way to get a feel for Ancient Egypt than from the Nile – floating past riverbanks dotted with palms and donkey carts, it’s as if the past 2,000 years haven’t happened at all. This is particularly true of this stretch of the cruise, an off-the-beaten-track glide along beautiful river-scapes to the Ptolemaic Temple at Dendarah, a wonderfully preserved site complete with underground passages and towering hieroglyphics. Tuck into afternoon tea on the trip back to Luxor, before a gourmet dinner, accompanied by traditional Egyptian dance.

Day 3 Luxor/Kom Ombo
Today, sail south past the lively market and ancient temple at Esna en route to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the largest and best-preserved in Egypt dedicated to the falcon-headed god. It’s a good place to gen up on your hieroglyphics before retiring to the sun deck and enjoying a tasty Egyptian supper.

Day 4 Kom Ombo/Aswan
Aswan is your next port of call. Visit the Temple of Philae on Agilika Island – moved brick by brick to its current location in the 1970s, after the construction of the Aswan Dam. Then relax on the Sun Boat, perhaps taking a dip in its plunge pool or retiring to the outdoor bar to watch the sun sink into the Nile.

Day 5 Aswan
There’s a lovely laidback vibe in Aswan. Soak it up on a wander around the aromatic souq or under the riverside palms. Then switch briefly to a smaller vessel – a traditional, single-sailed felucca – for an afternoon drift amid Aswan’s islands, to see ruins, Nubian villages and the Botanical Gardens’ exquisite blooms.
Sanctuary Sun Boat | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6 Aswan/Kom Ombo
Turn north once more, bound for Kom Ombo, where 300 crocodile mummies have been found, and where the mighty temple is jointly dedicated to Horus and Sobek, the crocodile god. Tonight, an Egyptian banquet awaits.
Sanctuary Sun Boat | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7 Kom Ombo/Luxor
Docking back in Luxor is far from the end of your journey: some of the country’s most important sites are still to be seen. Join an Egyptologist for a humbling walk through the temple complex of Karnak to see its Great Hypostyle Hall, a forest of 134 gargantuan columns, some 21m tall. After lunch, cross to the Nile’s West Bank. Here, descend into the richly coloured tombs of the Valley of the Kings and Queens and feel tiny at the imposing cliffside Temple of Hatshepsut. Then, bid a final farewell to the Nile with a proper send-off dinner back on board.
