	2010 was a true annus horribilis for the travel industry, with floods, landslides and earthquakes, the ash cloud, airline strikes, elections and finally the Christmas snow. I am very proud of our travel specialists and how they have pulled out the stops to ensure any disruption was minimised. The mark of a good company is how it reacts when things do not go to plan and the silver lining for us is that 2010 has reinforced the benefits of our security, expertise and service. We look forward to 2011 and what we hope will be a less turbulent year.

Nestled high in the Himalaya is Bhutan. The country only opened to tourists in the 1970s and with just the national airline able to access the Kingdom, Bhutan has been visited in the last decades by a privileged few. Kay Durden has just returned. She says: "From the moment you arrive, you feel as if you have been let into a special travel secret. People still dress in national costume; the few ATMs are for locals only and credit cards are rarely

accepted. There is a scattering of five star hotels, but if you really want to get under the skin of this charming country, then you should try the local guesthouses." But times are changing in Bhutan. There are plans to treble the amount of visitors over the next two years and three domestic airports are currently under construction. In our view, 2011 is THE year to go to Bhutan. Go before it changes too drastically.
