Nestled high in the Himalaya is Bhutan. The country only opened to tourists in the 1970s and with just the national airline able to access the Kingdom, Bhutan has been visited in the last decades by a privileged few. Kay Durden has just returned. She says: "From the moment you arrive, you feel as if you have been let into a special travel secret. accepted. There is a scattering of five star hotels, but if you really want to get under the skin of this charming country, then you should try the local guesthouses." But times are changing in Bhutan. There are plans to treble the amount of visitors over the next two years and three domestic airports are currently under construction.
