San Sebastian Pintxos HuntingStay at Hotel Maria Cristina >
Pintxos (the Basque name for tapas) abound in San Sebastian's famed Parte Vieja but knowing where to find the best ones is an art. While it's hard to have a bad meal in town, knowing exactly where to go for the best, freshest and most exciting pintxos takes inside knowledge. Your local guide will show you what a night on the town San Sebastian-style is all about! Diving right into the culinary heart of the city you'll experience a night of eating and drinking unlike any other. From fresh prawns and wild-caught squid to succulent veal and pork tenderloin, the pintxo hunt changes nightly and always features a mix of bites from classical traditional haunts to chic nouveau Basque bars. Come thirsty too as each pintxo is paired with the perfect cider and beer or local white and red wines.
Lisbon's culinary sceneStay at the Barrio Alto >
Savour the tastes of Lisbon's culinary scene with a visit to the Mercado da Ribeira, Lisbon's main market since 1892, on a tour of the city's culinary hotspots. Don't miss Trincas, where you can enjoy a cocktail on the terrace overlooking the garden of Dom Luis Square, or Manteigaria Silva, the place to discover Portugal's finest cheeses and smoked hams. Moving on to the stand of the classic Monte Mar, a superb fish restaurant, sample a selection of petiscos;a variety of small portions of traditional Portuguese food. Afterwards it's time to try some exquisite dishes at Casa De Pasto before continuing up the hill to the beautiful Opera House, to enjoy a desert created by the chef José Avillez. To complete your evening in true Portuguese style, stop off at the Solar do Vinho do Porto for a digestive glass of Port wine.
Be a winemaker for the day in TuscanyStay at the Hotel Castello di Casole >
Whilst in Tuscany learn about the wine making process and of course enjoy a glass or two. Why not indulge in more than just a simple tasting and winery visit and learn to be a wine maker for the day. Create your own signature blend and then have the bottles shipped back home, using the 25 day maturing period to create your own personal label, which you can use to create incredibly personal gifts (not to mention unique souvenirs). Stay and enjoy a delicious lunch in the old villa, one of our favourites in Tuscany.
