Pirates, mermaids, shipwrecks, space ships, water parks, alligators (over 200,000 of them!), Mickey Mouse and sunshine –Florida has long been a firm favourite with theme park fanatic families, but there's more to the Sunshine State than mice with big ears!
Start in Miami...the swanky, stylish and fast paced city and spend time on the beach. For an alternative take on 'the magic city', we'll introduce you to a local graffiti artist who'll take you on a tour of some of the coolest murals and neighbourhoods in the city. If you fancy a master class, they'll also teach you how to paint with spray paint!
Miami is also the home to the only Everglades ecosystem in the world. Thousands of animals including alligators, snapping turtles, the elusive Florida panther, raccoons, and bobcats live in this protected, endangered and unique national park. Most people think that the Everglades is just a big marshland, but it is actually a very very slow moving river! Traditional speedboats would never be able to navigate the 'river of grass' because their motors would get tangled in the plants, so hop on an airboat (the flat bottomed boats with the big fans on the back!) and check out the area with an expert guide. You'll also get to visit the scientific facilities at the park where you will learn about the exciting research and conservation projects underway. Check out the Kennedy Space Center to see NASA's fascinating launch complex and to learn about the US space programme –time it right and you may even get to see a rocket launch!
How about a visit to Palm Beach? If you're feeling sporty we'll introduce you to a stand up paddleboard coach who will get you riding the waves in no time. If you'd prefer a more exotic adventure then we'll take you swimming with the mermaids –manatees and dugongs have been mistaken by sailors and pirates for mermaids throughout history. Meet marine biologists at the Crystal River who will lead you on a swim with these beautiful and gentle protected creatures.
Now, for the biggie –Meet Mickey Mouse in the most spectacular way! First you'll be picked up in a private car and taken through the VIP entrance to Walt Disney World Resort. Your escort for the day will not only ensure you head straight to the front of every queue, but will also make introductions to some of your favourite Disney Characters.
The VIP access doesn't have to stop here. Next stop, Universal Orlando, and a private tour of the studios. You'll have exclusive backstage access and get to see how one of the most exciting parks in the world runs. But most importantly, you'll spend the rest of the day fighting aliens with the Men in Black, becoming a Minion, escaping the Mummy, and getting to roll out with the Transformers! If you're getting homesick then nip into Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade and visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
