Welcome to the frozen north, where you can choose between eerie winter landscapes and endless summer light in some of the most beautiful spots on Earth. Between summer and winter Finland is like two completely different countries, yet always full of warm and welcoming people. It is also utterly bonkers. In the most positive sense of the word, Finns consider themselves a bit mad: they enjoy sitting in a heated box, and upon reaching boiling point, running outside and rolling in the snow. While we wholeheartedly agree that the notion of a sauna is one we can fully get on board with, consider the country's other exports: the Moomins, Father Christmas, smoked reindeer, and Nokia. It may be a little mad, but it's certainly not boring. Its cities are impressively beautiful, with a mix of grand constructions, modern architecture and Scandinavian charm. The north is quietly stunning, relying on its natural beauty of countless lakes, thickly forested plains and snowy peaks to draw visitors. In the winter, the skies are pure and the air is crisp, and the northern reaches are the ideal place to spot the strange and mysterious aurora borealis. Helsinki is a coastal city of diverse architecture, with glorious Art Nouveau buildings, modern museums and a touch of Scandinavian charm that is undeniably cool but not as self-conscious as its neighbours. Finland's probably not the first place that springs to mind when planning a skiing holiday, but allow us to introduce you to Levi. One of Finland's top resorts, Levi's compact nature, excellent facilities and variety of accommodation makes it a popular destination for high-profile winter sports events, as well as seasonal hiking.
Finland with A&K
Remember how we said Finns were bonkers? Our team is up there with the best of them. We will never forget the day Janne sent us a video of his morning workout: ice skating on a frozen lake. Visit Finland with A&K and you'll see the real side to some of the world's most remotely beautiful landscapes, from snow-capped fell highlands to the unforgettable Northern Lights. We can arrange a VIP box for ice hockey games, a backstage tour at the opera or a fireworks display exclusively for you. Alternatively, if you're feeling a bit bonkers yourself, why not hone your swing with a spot of ice-golf or for the ultimate refreshment, try ice swimming.
May through to September offers the mildest weather and the highest number of travellers. This is the time of the long, long summer days in the land of the midnight sun. Further north in Lapland, October to March are good times to visit to enjoy winter activities, such as ice swimming and dog sledding and it is the best time to see the spectacular Northern Lights. Helsinki is great to visit all year round.

Our recent awards
As far as the naturalist guides in the Galapagos are concerned, they were all excellent, each with their own distinctive characters and styles of presentation.I would give special praise to Martin and Rulli (first week) and Karina (second week). Their knowledge and enthusiasm were outstanding and they were particularly conscious and caring of members of the group who needed a little extra time walking or a little extra help. The ship's crew were all lovely and friendly but I would particularly mention Edison (barman/waiter) and Darcy (panga driver) both of whom went the extra mile in providing their respective services.
