The Hotel
Le Meurice is a sumptuous Parisian palace with a twist. In 2007 Philippe Stark was challenged with adding some modern and fun touches to the gilded mirrors, frescos and chandeliers of Le Meurice. He didn't disappoint and took inspiration from Salvador Dali who spent around a month a year at the hotel. Some of the touches are designed to surprise and leave guests doing-double takes in the lavish surroundings of the hotel's lobbies. In one, guests sit under a giant handpainted canopy amongst tables with loud cowhide print sofas and dainty chairs offering just three legs. Dali would have loved it.
Make sure you spend time chatting to William, the head barman, in Le Bar 228. William has been with Le Meurice for decades and knows a thing or two about making cocktails. In fact Le Bar 228 has 17 exclusive drinks created by William and the team and is a place to which Parisians and celebrities flock.
