The region we call Southwest France, including the popular regions of Gascony and Dordogne and the city of Bordeaux, stretches along the Atlantic Ocean from the mouth of the Gironde Estuary in the north to the Spanish border to the south.
Unarguably the Dordogne and Gascony have a love of bygone eras. You can visit prehistoric fortresses or explore the medieval villages and towns of Rocamadour, Perigueux, Sarlat and Cahors. The breathtaking scenery of this region is interlaced with gorges, green meadows, winding rivers, and vineyard strewn fields.
As with many French regions the Dordogne is particularly noted for its gourmet dishes, such as foie gras, magret de canard and entrecote bordelaise. Of course the excellent meals are complimented with some fantastic Bordeaux wines and are ideally finished off with a host of Armagnacs or the southwest's famous Sauternes sweet dessert wine.
The area around Bordeaux provides the perfect base therefore for a tour of this rich and varied region.
This hotel has a truly magical feel, a mixture of the medieval and modern within the citadel walls. Redolent with the history of the region, it is truly a unique property.
