THE HOTEL
Re-opened in 2003 after a two year total re-build, the 18th Century Grande Bretagne has retuned unquestionably as Greece's most luxurious city hotel. Immaculately restored to the height of its old world grandeur, it is perfectly located at Syntagma Square in the heart of the city.
The hotel's palatial interior is lavishly appointed, with restored antiques and wonderful fabrics personalising each of the 321 room and suites. Each guest room also incorporates the latest modern enhancements such as flat screen plasma televisions and Internet access.
The Grande Bretagne is ideally located for exploration of the House of Parliament and National Gardens, whilst the trendy bars, cafés and boutiques of Kolonaki Square are a short walk away. After a day of exploration, unwind in the hotels atmospheric cellar bar.
Children are welcomed and little touches such as the in-room dining children's menu were a pleasant surprise.
The mainland and islands are very hot and dry in July and especially August, the preferred travel month for French, Italian and Spanish holiday makers, making conditions busy, hotel availability limited and the beaches crowded. May, June and September are infinitely more comfortable and generally less expensive.
