THE HOTEL
A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, The Nafplia Palace is a true one-off, whose setting, history and aesthetic are unlike any other. Surrounded by a myriad of cultural treasures and World Heritage sites this is truly a magical setting just 30 minutes from the ancient town of Mycenae and the world-famous Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus.
The hotel itself is a study in grandeur where cool, hard surfaces in wood, stone and steel are offset by warm, soft textures in cotton, leather and wool. The rooms and suites are all clean lines, huge windows and outdoor spaces - a remarkable counterpoint to the surrounding Bronze Age acropolis.
This hotel has to be seen to be believed.
A lift takes you down through the ancient rock of the acropolis into the town of Nafplion a great way to start exploring.
The mainland and islands are very hot and dry in July and especially August, the preferred travel month for French, Italian and Spanish holiday makers, making conditions busy, hotel availability limited and the beaches crowded. May, June and September are infinitely more comfortable and generally less expensive.
