I am most grateful for your (Nicola Wallington) guide selection. Our guide was knowledgable, patient, polite, considerate, perfect in German and can be highly recommended. It was a stroke of genius on your part to have him with us during the whole trip. We would have been lost without him.

The five-star Electra Palace Hotel is located in the peaceful neighbourhood of Plaka, in the heart of Athens old town. Just a hop, skip and jump from many of the city's cultural and historic sites, including the mighty Parthenon, the hotel is a wonderful base from which to explore this captivating city. The hotel's golden neoclassical façade and wrought iron balconies sit harmoniously among the buildings of Plaka, while inside marble floors, rich fabrics and grand chandeliers add to the sense of luxury. Spacious and elegant with Jacuzzi's and views of the Acropolis, the suites are superb. For creative and flavoursome Grecian cuisine and spectacular views, head to the Electra Roof Garden restaurant at sunset. Alternatively, the English-style Duck Tail Bar, is a lively spot for a refreshing sundowner.
Best time to be there
The mainland and islands are very hot and dry in July and especially August, the preferred travel month for French, Italian and Spanish holiday makers, making conditions busy, hotel availability limited and the beaches crowded. May, June and September are infinitely more comfortable and generally less expensive.
Rhodes, with its refreshing westerly winds and moderate summer heat, makes it the ideal place to travel for a summer holiday or a short break in the spring or Autumn.
