Day 1 UK / Santorini

Day 2 Santorini
The essence of Santorini is not just its pretty whitewashed houses and chapels, or the dreamy views across the Aegean Sea; it also has a fascinating ancient past. A local guide will accompany you to the impressive Akrotiri excavation site. After the sudden and successful evacuation of its inhabitants in the 17th century BC, the Minoan town of Akrotiri was buried following a volcanic eruption. Subsequently, the town's buildings and their contents were naturally preserved by the volcanic ash which covered the entire island. To some, this significant archaeological site is an intriguing Minoan centre of commerce, to others it is the Greek equivalent of Pompeii - but true romantics believe it to be the legendary lost city of Atlantis. The site will be brought to life by your guide and at the Museum of Prehistoric Thira, which displays representative artefacts and frescoes from the excavated buildings. Stop for a breather and refreshing drink atop the cliffs at Fira, before heading to Profitis Ilias, the highest point of the island, where you’ll be treated to mesmerising panoramic views. Dropping back down to sea level, you might like to check out the famous black sand beaches at Perivolas and take a dip in the Aegean, before stopping for a glass of wine at one of the family-run wineries on the island where you can taste vintages made from the indigenous white Assyrtiko grape variety; the arid volcanic ash-based soil of the island is ideal for crisp white wines.

Day 3 Santorini
You'll have the whole day free today to explore Santorini at your own pace, perhaps exploring the beaches that range from the black sand of Perissa and Perivolas to the Red Beach by Akrotiri. In the late afternoon, it is worth heading to Oia to absorb the vivid hues of the famous sunset over the wine dark sea, sundowner in hand. We also recommend taking in a movie at open air cinema located on the main road in Kamari - it's a great experience for a romantic evening under the stars.

Day 4 Santorini / Mykonos
You’ll be collected from the Grace and driven to Santorini’s picturesque port to take a high-speed boat to Mykonos. A member of the A&K team will meet you on arrival and drive you to your hotel. In the evening, your private guide will whisk you off to Mykonos Town through the labyrinth of cobbled winding streets. You'll be guided to the area known as Little Venice where you peruse any of the many lively cocktail bars as the sun goes down, before wandering through the streets and browsing the myriad jewellery shops that stay open late. Your guide will point out some of the best restaurants and leave you in peace to enjoy the fine fare available if you wish to dine in town. You will have a car at your disposal to take you back to the hotel when you are ready.
Grace Mykonos | Meals: Breakfast

Day 5 Delos
Your guide will meet you after an early breakfast and join you on the public boat that will take you the neighbouring Delos, an uninhabited island that is home to many archaeological treasures. The mythological birthplace of Artemis and Apollo, Delos was first a place of pilgrimage before becoming a thriving commercial port in the second and third centuries BC. After exploring to your heart’s content, with your guide on hand to illuminate the island’s history, head back to Mykonos where you'll have the rest of the day free to do as you please.
Grace Mykonos | Meals: Breakfast

Day 6 Mykonos
A relaxing day to spend as you choose, lazing by pool, chilling out on the beach, or checking out the bars and restaurants in town - or perhaps a combination of them all.
Grace Mykonos | Meals: Breakfast

Day 7 Mykonos / UK
You'll be driven to Mykonos Airport for your flight back to the UK.
Meals: Breakfast

Best time to be there

The mainland and islands are very hot and dry in July and especially August, the preferred travel month for French, Italian and Spanish holiday makers, making conditions busy, hotel availability limited and the beaches crowded. May, June and September are infinitely more comfortable and generally less expensive.
Rhodes, with its refreshing westerly winds and moderate summer heat, makes it the ideal place to travel for a summer holiday or a short break in the spring or Autumn.
