Wild and wonderful Botswana is sure to impress nature-loving romantics with its superb safari opportunities and sky-exploding technicolour sunsets. Chobe National Park is one of the country’s finest, bursting with wildlife, much of which is drawn to the life-giving river making it a sensational safari destination. Your lodge is perfectly placed to overlook the hippo-filled waterway, the teeming flood plains and the endless wilderness beyond. An epic vista to start your stunningly romantic adventure, it will take you deep into the heart of the some of the most beautiful landscapes of Africa.
You can explore Chobe in all its moods. Head out early in an open-sided vehicle to see the rising sun set the park aglow and catch the animals at their most active. Chobe is famous for its large concentrations of elephant – around 50,000 roam here – as well as herds of buffalo and plenty more besides. In the late afternoon hop aboard a double-decker boat to float amid crocodiles, hippos and a startling range of birds, and sip a sundowner with your partner looking out over the bustling multi-hued waterways.
- At the mighty Victoria Falls, take to the skies in a helicopter the best way to experience ‘the Smoke that Thunders’.
- Stay in the predator capital of Botswana and look out for lion, leopard, cheetah and if you are incredibly lucky the rare African painted dog.
- Stay in elegant accommodation in the heart of the bush.
- Enjoy fine cuisine and wine under the African stars – an unforgettable and utterly romantic experience.
- A sunset cruise on the Zambezi River is the perfect way to end your day in Africa and start your evening.
Gazing down on the drama of theDelta as you fly into the heart of the Okavango to the Moremi Game Reserve is an exquisite experience in itself. Known as the ‘predator capital of Africa’ this reserve protects a lush jumble of lagoons, flooded pans and sweeping grasslands in an unparalleled wildlife haven. Perhaps the finest game-viewing spot of all is Chief ’s Island, seasonally surrounded by either glittering waters or grassy plains. Animal life is abundant, including rarer species such as cheetah, leopard and even wild dogs. Morning and evening game drives and – if the water’s high – trips by traditional mokoro canoe, will reveal Botswana at its best and you will be blown away by its show-stopping sunsets.
The Okavango Delta is vast, but we’ll take you on another mesmerising flight to a particularly beautiful sweep of it, between Moremi and the Delta’s permanent waters; being outside the national parks means walking safaris are permitted, enabling the closest encounters with the bush. This is where you want to be for full immersion in this matchless wilderness. From the balcony of your private tent – or even the comfort of your fourposter which can be rolled onto the deck for a heavenly night under the stars – listen to the Delta begin to wake. A perfect add-on to Botswana is a visit to the mighty Victoria Falls. For something special, head out on foot with a guide and a herd of semi-habituated elephants, gaining unprecedented insight into the lives of these African giants.
