If you have a few weeks to play with, visiting more than one country can provide interesting contrasts and a depth of insight which is sometimes missed on shorter journeys. Just a few weeks in Latin America will allow you to kick back on the beaches of Brazil, tango in Buenos Aires, trek to Iguaçu Falls, ride horses in the Patagonian pampas and enjoy star-gazing in Chile’s Atacama Desert. For lively cities, awesome natural landscapes, gorgeous hotels and welcoming people with a healthy appetite for romance, Latin America is just the ticket.
Where better than a Brazilian beach to chill out after the wedding frenzy? Ponta dos Ganchos is one of our favourite beach hotels. Located on a privately owned peninsula, it has a selection of very private and luxurious cabañas with fantastic ocean views. After a few days relaxation, when the excitement of the wedding has dissipated, a short flight will take you to Iguaçu falls. One of the world’s natural wonders, Iguaçu features 275 individual waterfalls spanning nearly 3km in length. The sheer scale of it has to be seen to be believed, and the thundering water can be heard for miles.
Honeymoon Highlights of Chile, Argentina & Brazil
- Argentina’s gauchos know the Patagonian grasslands like the back of their hands. Riding with them across the pampas with the wind in your hair is exhilarating.
- We love the Brazilian coast, whether strutting along Ipanema in Rio, retreating at a private hideaway, or just hanging out on the hip and happening north-eastern beaches.
- The dry skies of Chile’s Atacama are the best in the world for astronomers. Learn about the constellations, planets and galaxies shimmering overhead with our expert guides.
- Latin passion comes to life in the fiery tango clubs of Buenos Aires. If the mood takes you, try a lesson for yourself.
South across the border from Iguacu, lies Argentina’s glamorous capital, which welcomes visitors with European splendour and Latin passion. From sensuous tango to lip-smacking food and world-class museums, Buenos Aires is a city that doesn’t do things by halves. If you get chance, it’s worth joining fi red up locals for a football match at the famous La Boca stadium. In stark contrast, wild, rugged Patagonia further south has some inviting lodges for rest and recuperation after the excitement of the city. Vast plains, glaciers, ice flows and mountains are all begging to be explored.
Your journey will then take you from ice to fi re as you head for Chile’s Atacama Desert, the driest place on earth. Here, volcanoes breathe fire, pink flamingos dot shimmering salt pans, and the sunsets are world class. There’s lots on offer, from cycling, trekking and horse riding to swimming in the desert oases.
