Best time to be there

June to September is a great time to enjoy a mild ocean climate thanks to the Gulf Stream. It is relatively mild in winter and cool in summer but this is when you can enjoy almost 24 hours of daylight. The weather can change several times during the day. In midwinter, whilst there is little daylight, it is one of the best times to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

Iceland; 3 Nights

For the more adventurous, this itinerary takes in all the highlights but adds on an activity day in which you can choose to take a helicopter ride over the highlands, enjoy a super-jeep and snow-mobile safari, or go dog sledding and glacier walking.

Day 1 London/Reykjavik

On arrival at Keflavik airport, you will be met by an A&K representative and taken on an orientation tour of Reykjavik and its surrounding areas. During your tour you will get to see Parliament, the National Museum and Hofdi House, made famous in 1986 for the summit between Gorbachev and Reagan. You will then be driven to Hotel 101. This modern contemporary hotel is centrally situated a few minutes from the main shopping area. After dinner, if weather conditions permit, you will be taken to a site away from the city lights to try and capture the natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights.

Day 2 The Golden Circle
After breakfast, you will be driven into the countryside to Thingvellir, the site of the original Althing, considered the oldest democratic parliament in the world established in 930AD. This area is noted for its spectacular lava formations and being the only place in the world where you can see the tectonic plates drift apart. Next it is onto the town of Geyser, which gave its name to all other erupting hot springs. You willsee one of the most active geysers in the area, Strokkur, spouting up to 90 feet into the air. From here you will go to one of the most impressive waterfalls in Europe,Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall). Here you will see thousands of tons of icy water thunder majestically down in a double-fall into a deep gorge from the glacier Langjokull. The tour ends in the mountains beneath the glacier Langjokull the second biggest in Europe. After dinner at the Lava Cave Restaurant, if conditions permit, you may be fortunate to witness the magical Northern Lights.

Day 3 Southern Iceland
After breakfast, you can choose from three activity days: take a helicopter ride into the highlandsof Iceland; enjoy a super-jeep and snowmobile safari; or go dog sledding and glacier walking.

Day 4 Reykjavik/London
After breakfast you will be driven to the Blue Lagoon, a natural geothermal spa surrounded by lava fields and black sandy beaches. Relax in the thermal waters before arriving back at the airport for your flight back to London.
