India; 4 Nights

The monuments of Khajuraho have been given UNESCO World Heritage status. These Hindu and Jain temples are famous for their erotic sculptures.  Explore the riverside city of Orchha before heading to the historical fort city of Gwalior. This itinerary can be easily fitted into any tour of northern India.

Day 1 - Khajuraho
Arrive by air from Delhi or Varanasi and check in to the Jass Hotel. This afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the area and explore the temples.

Day 2 - Khajuraho/Orchha

After breakfast drive to the medieval riverside city of Orchha (175kms/4 hours) and arrive at Hotel Orchha Resort for an overnight stay. This afternoon explore some of the numerous palaces, pavilions and temples of the area.

Day 3 - Orchha/Gwalior
This morning transfer by road to Gwalior (97kms/2 1/2 hours) to check-in to the Taj Usha Kiran Palace Hotel for a two night stay. Built originally as a palace for a royal visit, the Taj Usha Kiran Palace is now the focal point of this interesting city. The ornate rooms are adorned with Art-Deco furniture. The French mosaic floors provide a cheerful counterpoint. As you lie back and gaze upwards, the ceilings come to view, with spacious baths and old world charm, reminiscent of the gracious lifestyles of the Maharajas.

Day 4 - Gwalior
Explore this historic city that boasts a chequered history of heroic battles and tales of chivalry. Gwalior is located at the geographical and historical crossroads of India. Take an afternoon's sightseeing tour of the immense cliff top fortress built on the site of a 5th century temple of the sun.

Day 5 - Gwalior/Agra
After a leisurely breakfast depart Gwalior and travel by road to Agra (118kms/3 hours).

This tour can be fitted after day three on our Classic North India tour.
