THE HOTEL
Shergarh is the creation of naturalist Jehan Bhujwala and his English wife Katie, whose aim is to ensure a personalised wildlife experience for every guest - with complete sensitivity to the surrounding environment.

The Main House serves as a central meeting point, and is surrounded by deep verandas, perfect for observing the bird life on the lake or relaxing with a book from the library.

The accommodation has an exclusive feel, with just six tents, all of which have been recently upgraded. The tents are set in woodland and individually spaced to give total privacy, even from their mud-finished verandas. They have large bedrooms with either twin or double beds, whilst the attached, non-tented bathrooms have twin-basin units and separate toilet and shower rooms, as well as plenty of luggage-storage and hanging space. Each tent sits beneath locally made baked mud tiles, which have the dual-function of shading the tents from the sun and providing insulation when it's cold.

As well as the tiger, Kanha is home to Indian bison (the world's largest wild cattle), wild boar, jungle cat, jackal, antelope, the nocturnal sloth bear and four deer species. The hard-ground Barasingha deer is found only at Kanha - a highly successful conservation program brought the population from less than 40 in the 1960s into the hundreds today.
