Apulia , Italy
Originally an 18th century Italian farmhouse, now a design-led boutique hotel, Masseria Cimino can be viewed from the 9th hole of the San Domenico Golf course. It is close to one of Puglia's key archaeological sites where important relics from the ancient city of Egnazia have been found. An Agri-turismo (working farm), the delicious food served here is organic and either grown on the estate or locally so half board is included in the price. There is a beautifully appointed swimming pool, an outdoor lounger for post-dinner drinks under the stars, the beach is only a short stroll away and bicycles can be hired to explore the surrounding olive tree farms.
Accommodation
Of the 15 rooms, some are located in the farmhouse and others in the former stables facing the sea.
The hotel is very romantic, furnished in a fresh, contemporary Mediterranean style. The rooms are equipped with flat screen TV, minibar, safe and all have individually controlled air conditioning and heating. Some of the rooms have a beautiful working fireplace and others have balconies with a little terrace overlooking the Championship golf course with a view of the nearly Adriatic Sea.
Coastal areas and the islands are great year round, although July and August can be very hot. The arts and opera seasons are generally at their peak outside these months. August is very much a shut down month as Italians take their annual break.
