Day 1 UK / Rome
Hidden away near the Spanish Steps is your home from Rome, the Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie –a beautifully renovated 18th-century mansion described by Jean Cocteau as "paradise on earth", where Picasso would lean from his window to pluck oranges from the trees outside. Settle in and relax in the elegant terraced Secret Garden.
Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie

Day 2 Rome
Imagine roaring along with 49,999 other ancient Romans during gladiatorial bouts at the Colosseum, commissioned by Emperor Vespasian nearly 2,000 years ago. Delve into the hypogeum –the subterranean network of tunnels where wild animals, performers and gladiators waited anxiously before ascending to do battle in the arena. Discover how those enslaved warriors felt during an afternoon at Gladiator School, donning tunics, belts and wooden swords to master the basic techniques of gladiatorial sword fighting, ahead of a fun-filled family tournament.
Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie | Meals: Breakfast

Day 3 Rome
In Italy, food is much more than just fuel –it's a sacred pleasure. So when in Rome... learn the art of pizza making! Enjoy a private cookery lesson, fun for all ages –especially when it comes to munching the fruits of your labours.
Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie | Meals: Breakfast

Day 4 Rome / Florence
Hop aboard the 'Ferrari' train –the high-speed Italo service to Florence –and whizz north through the countryside to Florence and a warm welcome at the Rocco Forte Hotel Savoy. A stylish, luxurious hotel just steps from the magnificent Duomo (Catedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore), this is the perfect base from which to discover the attractions of the historic centre.
Hotel Savoy | Meals: Breakfast

Day 5 Florence

Step back in time to the Renaissance on a day of exploration with your private guide. At the Children's Museum you'll experience life in the 15th and 16th centuries as seen through the eyes of Cosimo de' Medici and his consort Eleonora. The astronomer Galileo, another Florentine genius, is core to the Museum of History and Science: admire some of his scientific instruments, old telescopes, microscopes and all kinds of clocks –as well as his gold-plated middle finger, preserved in a glass bubble! Heads whirling with fun and history, your children will relish a behind-the-scenes tasting of some of Italy's finest ice cream at one of Florence's oldest and best gelaterias.
Hotel Savoy | Meals: Breakfast

Day 6 Pisa / Florence
The Leaning Tower of Pisa –the cathedral's campanile (bell tower), started in 1173 –is the mistake that launched a thousand postcards. Climb the wonky monument for dramatic views across the city and surrounding Tuscan landscape –then head into the countryside for a tour of an artisan chocolatier's atelier, with plenty of opportunities to sample the hand-made creations.
Hotel Savoy | Meals: Breakfast

Day 7 Florence / UK
Wrest yourself from the hotel for your flight back to the UK.
Meals: Breakfast

Best time to be there

Coastal areas and the islands are great year round, although July and August can be very hot. The arts and opera seasons are generally at their peak outside these months. August is very much a shut down month as Italians take their annual break.
