The Gritti Palace
Why we like it

- Located on the banks of the Grand Canal
- Interiors display Venetian period splendour
- 82 elegantly appointed rooms, including 21 sumptuous suites

Discover Venice's lesser known streets and hidden artistic treasures on a walking tour with a private guide.
My travel consultant, Sarah Brunger, was very polite to talk to over the phone and I felt as though she asked all the right questions. She was very kind and presented me with a number of options to choose from and even after I had made a choice, was very accommodating with the specific changes I was requesting.

Occupying a sumptuous 15th century palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal, The Gritti Palace was once the abode of choice for many international luminaries. Having undergone an extensive restoration, The Gritti Palace reopened its doors in 2013 to reveal a new self even more luxurious than ever.
The hotel is elegant, intimate and relaxed. From the moment you arrive, the courteous staff make you feel right at home and are brimming with ideas of places to visit and restaurants to dine at. Interiors, designed by Chuck Chewning, are filled with Italian antiques, interesting artefacts and large oil paintings adorn the walls. Each of the 61 rooms are individually designed and the large windows illuminate views overlooking the campo, canal or small Rio dell Ostreghe canal on the hotel's west side. The hotel is most praised for its 21 luxurious suites, 8 of which boast the hotels best views of the Grand Canal. We recommend the spectacular two-storey Redentore Terazza Suite with its own private elevator and rooftop terrace featuring a mini pool.
Enjoy some pre-dinner drinks in the refined setting of Bar Longhi, an iconic gathering place for the city's elite; ask the bartender to make you one his innovative cocktails - we love the balsamic Martinis. Following drinks, head to fine dining restaurant Club del Doge to experience gourmet Italian cuisine with Chef Daniele Turco. Meals can be enjoyed out on the terrace with views overlooking the canal, weather dependent. Learn to create some of Club del Doge's authentic Venetian dishes at the Gritti Epicurean School; enjoy a tour of Rialto Market before your private cooking class in a charming open kitchen.
The hotel's Acqua di Parma Spa is comprised of two treatment suites, with a steam bath surrounded by Venetian mosaics and two Turkish baths. Venice Golf club, located on Lido Island, is just a short 35-minute water taxi ride from the hotel.
Best time to be there
Coastal areas and the islands are great year round, although July and August can be very hot. The arts and opera seasons are generally at their peak outside these months. August is very much a shut down month as Italians take their annual break.
