Submerge yourself in the waters of the Red Sea and explore Aqaba’s spectacular coral reef

Located on the Red Sea, Aqaba is the only coastal city in Jordan. Its unique location close to many of Jordan’s most remarkable archaeological sites makes it a perfect spot to relax in as you discover the best of the country’s heritage.

After the discovery of Tell Maquss, an ancient Chalcolithic site, Aqaba has seen extensive excavations. These have unearthed a treasure trove of wonders, including the remains of Ayla, thought widely to be the biblical port of Salomon. Our guides can also help you venture a little further afield, taking you to the rose-red city of Petra or the haunting deserts of the Wadi Rum. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even camp overnight here.

Aqaba is also popular with water-sport enthusiasts. Its crystal-clear waters make it ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving. The city’s location on Red Sea ensures the water is warm all year round, meaning your qualified scuba diving or snorkelling instructor can show you the Red Sea’s most spectacular coral reef whatever the time of year. Be sure to pack your waterproof camera.

Aqaba boasts some of the best hotels in the region, such as the Mövenpick Resort and Spa Tala Bay, and offers the perfect base for visiting Jordan’s desert landscapes and ancient sites.
